Rwanda’s Beloved Children

Benefitting Association Mwana Ukundwa

Twenty-two year old Katherine Carelock from Texas went to Rwanda not expecting the lifechanging experience that would inspire her so deeply. An amateur photographer, Katherine began taking photographs of the every day lives of the women and children in Rwanda. Her photographs poignantly captured the faces and work of the resilient women of Rwanda, who have moved past their devastating memories of genocide to rebuild the country with incredible passion and perseverance.

Upon returning home, Katherine’s photographs caught the attention of a Fort Worth gallery owner, Margery Grella at Artspace111. After hearing the incredible story of the individuals, plans to spread the word and host a benefit at the gallery began taking shape.

Katherine hopes to share the inspiration and faith of the women and children torn by grief, poverty and disease, in order to make a better tomorrow for people all over the world.

Rwanda’s Beloved Children, a benefit party and art auction will take place at Artspace111, Saturday, December 15, 2007, 7 – 10 pm. Tickets: $50 per person and $250 for a table of 6. Proceeds from the event will benefit Association Mwana Ukundwa, a non-profit organization located in Rwanda, which aims ”to contribute to the socioeconomic reintegration of children at risk.”
