For me, painting is a continual battle between light, color and shape. As I work through a painting it becomes a series of addition, subtraction and correcting mistakes, which all contribute to the finished work. I do not think of my paintings necessarily as realism but as a fractured reality. Moreover, my paintings become an emotional response to what I am seeing.
